Charles Holmes from Academy for Systems Change conducted a public lecture at African Rural University under the theme, “What can we learn or do to increase our learning and participating in creating sustainable change”.
During the lecture, Charles introduced to the audience the tools that are used to increase people’s learning.
He noted that relationship is the most important aspect in increasing people’s learning and participating in creating sustainable change.
He expounded on the techniques for building relationships which include; Expectation, Explanation and Engagement (3Es). This is called the Fair Process.
The Capacity to Create Results is the other tool. Charles expounded on this using the Vision and Current Reality Methodology.
He said that those who do not create the future they want must endure the future they get. He also said that whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it.
He gave an example of John Anster’s quote; “Boldness has genius, power and magic in it” before adding that sustainable change starts with oneself, the goes to the family before spreading out to the community.
The community can be a village, Sub County, district, country, continent or the whole world.
In attendance were the staff and students of African Rural University, staff and students of URDT Girls’ School, staff and students of URDT Institute, staff of URDT Farm, RCDP, IDP, and community members from Kibaale District.
