About 30 students from Makerere University are reported to have been detained at Jinja road police station over charges yet to be identified.

This was after the chaos that broke out during the Kyambogo University Guild final open campaign at the university western playground.

According to the Officer in Charge (OC) Kyambogo police station, Moses Kitamirike, a number of Makerere students and other outsiders were identified in some of the Candidates’ camps especially for Michael Ashaba who later caused chaos and havoc to the on going open rallies.

“We have detained many of the non Kyambogo University students that tried to cuased havoc at the final rally… these guys were drunk and not in their minds. We really call upon the candidates to ease the security work by controlling their camps,” said OC Kitamirike.

He added,”Not all the detained are Makerere Students but we shall interrogate them accordingly… most of them were in the FDC camp of Michael Ashaba.”

A group of frustrated students shouting ‘we want Michael disqualified’ who requested anonymity threatened to boycott the elections if Michael Ashaba appears on the ballot paper.

Kyambogo University will hold the Guild, GRCs and Chairmen of halls elections on Tuesday March 7, 2017 at the respective Faculties.

Students are requested to come with the University Identity Cards or for the First years to present any University document with a stamp and a photo of the owner.
