EEstablished in 1988, the MRC/ UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit (Unit) is an internationally recognized centre of excellence for research on HIV infection and related diseases, contributing knowledge on the evolving epidemic, the evaluation of innovative health care options, treatment and prevention, and the development of health policy and practice in Africa and worldwide. The Unit’s head offices are located at the Uganda Virus Research Institute Entebbe Campus, and the main research activities in Masaka, Kalungu, Kampala and Wakiso districts, including the peri-urban areas of Entebbe.The Unit is now seeking an enthusiastic and experienced individual to fill the following position: Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

Contract Duration: 2 Year, Renewable subject to performance

Job description
The Manager of Human Resource and Administration is responsible for the management of the Human Resources (HR) Service to its 460 staff, directing and managing the HR Team and other staff undertaking administrative roles and the Field Station Administrators. The post holder has leadership of the Service and responsibility for its development and operational efficiency and must therefore be competent in developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will work with a wide range of internal and external colleagues. The post holder is responsible for the development and implementation of the Unit’s HR plan which supports the Unit’s strategy. The post holder will play a key role alongside the Chief Operating Officer in delivering an effective and efficient service, using technology and people to deliver improved service and operational flexibility. The post holder will manage a team of eight staff, report to the Chief Operating Officer and will work closely with academic and professional support staff. The post is based in Entebbe although the post holder is expected to make regular visits to the other Unit field stations.
