Job Title: Midwife Mentors (2 Vacancies)
 
IDI is an independently governed institute within the College of Health Sciences at Makerere University and has the mission “To strengthen health systems in Africa, with a strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through research and capacity development.” IDI has operations across Uganda as well as in a number of other African countries and has a staffing of over 1,000 managing multiple projects in research, clinical services, public health and training.  IDI has five operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: prevention, care and treatment; training; research; Outreach; and laboratory services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University-John Hopkins University Core Lab). The IDI Outreach program supports Saving Mothers Giving Life (SMGL) project interventions in Kibaale district and comprehensive HIV/AIDS services (including Adult Safe Male Medical Circumcision (SMC) for HIV prevention in the 7 districts of Kibaale, Hoima, Kiboga, Kyankwanzi, Buliisa, Masindi and Kiryandongo under the Expanded Kibaale-Kiboga Project (EKKP).

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Offer mentorship to front line health workers within supported health facilities during delivery of PMTCT Option B+, EID services and related MCH services. Support implementation and roll out of MoH guidelines in line with and ensure compliance with MoH policies.
  • Coordinate required trainings for the district staff in relation to implementation of eMTCT
  • Technically support professional Continuous Medical Education (CME) sessions in line with eMTCT and related MCH areas.
  • Actively facilitate CQI activities to improve eMTCT services
  • Ensure that all health facilities generate and submit required reports in time for program reporting.
  • Coordinate and support follow up of clients to improve retention in care for Option B+ patients and their exposed infants.
  • Technically support integration of maternal care within EID care points to support client centered care. 
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicants must have completed formal training in Midwifery from a recognized education institution.
  • At least three years’ experience in a busy clinical setting preferably in the district health system setting.
  • Up to date registration with the respective professional body in Uganda.
  • Additional training in elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV.
  • Good computer literacy skills i.e. Use of computers including word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, email and Internet.
  • Highly knowledgeable on the current guidelines and practices on eMTCT in the country.
Compensation Package: The compensation package will be commensurate with the caliber and experience of the individual we are seeking. Contract is initially 3 years and may be renewed thereafter
