Job Title:  Manager, Process & Governance

Standard Chartered PLC is a British multinational banking and financial services company headquartered in Hong Kong, China. It is a universal bank with operations in consumer, corporate and institutional banking, and treasury services. Despite its UK base, it does not conduct retail banking in the UK, and around 90% of its profits come from Africa, United Kingdom, United States and the Middle East. Standard Chartered Bank Uganda is the longest established international bank in the country; the first branch was opened in August 1912. We had 11 branches up to 1972 and retained only one branch during the turbulence of the 70s. In 1998 we acquired 4 branches of former Cooperative Bank in November 1999. Standard Chartered Bank Uganda today has a network of 11 branches in Kampala, Jinja, Mbale, Mbarara and Gulu. Standard Chartered Bank Uganda has 29 ATMs and over 600 staff.

Job Summary: The Manager, Process & Governance will support the Head CC in all aspects of his role in order to:

  • Develop, implement and execute business strategies and associated financial plans.
  • Deliver strong financial performance.
  • Ensure the business is managed in compliance with Group policies and procedures in order to minimize risk e.g. credit, operational, market, country and reputation.
  • Proactively manage and develop talent

  5. Brand: Organise high quality events and workshops on behalf of the  head CC in coordination with the CC team leaders

  • Provide role model leadership behaviour consistent with the Group’s vision, values and brand image.
  • Responsible for the preparation of high quality documentation on behalf of the head CC including Business reviews, product presentations weekly performance Updates of the CC team.
  • Regular and Adhoc Reporting
  • Steer the development, implementation and execution of business strategies,  through tracking and maintaining the CC priorities list
  • Ensure the engagement of Group functions in the development of Uganda  CC strategies and policies
  • Responsible for the formulation, communication and monitoring of progress on strategic projects being carried out by CC.
  • Deliver realistic annual financial targets for Uganda
  • Oversee costs tightly (particularly project spend) and drive down the cost/income ratio
  • Robust balance sheet management in compliance with Group ALCO and liquidity guidelines
  • Manage performance against budget for the General management cost centre
  • Organise CC strategy sessions twice a year and track closure of action points raised during the sessions.
  • Achieve optimal footprint for the businesses
  • Ensure businesses are adequately resourced and properly managed with established risk and control indicators, regular MIS and sound systems infrastructure
  • Drive and grow a sales culture that responds promptly to client needs and fulfils their requirements
  • Ensure the development and implementation of a comprehensive regulator relationship plan covering: B.O.U, Portfolio, CMA, Min. of Finance and USE
  • Continue good rating and relationships with key stake holders
  • Make sure that the Head of CC are appropriately informed about all aspects of the business.
  • Communicate Segment Half and Full year results effectively to  the team
  • Ensure that all policies and procedures are embedded and adhered to, particularly with Anti Money Laundering guidelines and suspicious transactions monitoring, ORMA.
  • Ensure traction of closure of audit findings for reviews conducted
  • Ensure the Bank has the right talent to meet the current and future business challenges
  • Support development of talent to achieve team and individual objectives
  • Ensure appropriate motivation, recognition and reward mechanisms are in place.
  • Organise regular branch and departmental visits for the head of CC and accompany him on these visits.
  • Organise weekly meetings and the CC team .
  • Proactively look out for exceptional achievers to be recognised and bring them to the attention of the CC Head and EXCO

Qualifications, Skills and Experience needed for the job: 
  • The ideal candidate should have detailed knowledge and understanding of Banking
  • Sound judgement, sensitivity, persuasion and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication and motivational skills
  • Good skills in Analytics and Prior MIS experience
