Vicky was the only girl I respected in my life besides my mother. Her loving heart made me think life could not be the same without her and wished she could get me a baby with time.

One day Vicky came to my place and just as usual, I thought she had come to bend over for a night. But this time it was not the normal love game I was used to.

On entering she looked straight into my eyes and chicken kindheartedly said, “My sweetheart, I have missed my periods…” before she went into total silence for a couple of minutes.

To me, this did not sound like the Pope had gotten married because I was praying for a fruitful marriage.

Though I was not a millionaire, I was convinced that taking care of her plus the pregnancy and the baby after birth was not a big deal. But Vicky’s collapse meant something and left me perplexed.

When she gained consciousness, she openly confessed to me that she rather gets HIV/Aids than conceiving. Her statement almost left me fainted too, but as a cow boy, I did not.

It was at this point that I realised that falling in love with some campus girls is the hardest thing to understand thus forcing me to find out why most of them fear getting pregnant.

Reasons why campus girls are worried of getting pregnant

  • When a campus girl gets pregnant, her chances of lying to other men that she is single become limited.
  • She cannot con men of their money in the name of ‘I love you will all my goodies’.
  • Her fellow girls laugh at her for being ignorant of the available contraceptive methods.
  • They are scared of being chased away from their parents’ homes before they complete studies.
  • The boyfriend who has been doing coursework for her will stop on knowing that she is pregnant.
  • A pregnancy is seen by everyone unlike a person suffering from Aids.
