10,000m Recordholder Joshua Cheptegei Now New Uganda Tourism Ambassador

The Uganda Tourism Board (CEO), Lilly Ajarova in the company of Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities Rtd. Col. Tom Butime unveiled Joshua Cheptegei as new Uganda tourism brand ambassador.

At the event the occurred on February 10th, 2021 at Uganda Golf Club in Kitante, the Uganda tourism board revealed that they (tourism board) have entered a one year contract with the World 10000m gold and the Commonwealth double record breaker.

“Today, we’ve reached an agreement with world champion @joshuacheptege1 as our tourism ambassador for brand Uganda. Welcome aboard, Joshua,” the Uganda Tourism Board tweeted on Wednesday.

Joshua Cheptegei who holds the 5km, 5000m and 10000m world cross country race records is set for another 5km WR record break on Sunday at Monaco Run Herculis in France.

The record star appreciated the opportunity rendered to him to fly the Uganda flag even higher. He stated that he is going to work with much motivation than before given his level of responsibility

“I would like to thank God who has enabled me to get this,” he said, as cameras flashed. “I am deeply grateful to the UTB for having chosen me for this big responsibility, 

“It is a responsibility that I accept with all humility and honour. It is a challenge and I know that more and more Ugandans will be looking at me. I am now even more motivated to give every race my all,” Cheptegei remarked.

Cheptegei succeeds song bird Edrisah Musuuza alias Eddy Kenzo who has been the ambassador for 2020/2021.

Other individuals who have acted as Uganda’s tourism ambassadors include; Zari and Fabiola, artiste Eddy Kenzo and former Miss Uganda Quinn Abenakyo.
