Job Title: Nutrition Specialist

Job Summary: The Nutrition Specialist will offer subject matter expertise on Nutrition in Health and WASH programming in line with World Vision Uganda National Office.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Offer technical support during the design, implementation and evaluation of nutrition projects and ADP health programs.
  • Design training materials and appropriate IEC materials for use in nutrition education and Behavior Change Communication for staff, implementing partners and community health workers (VHTs) designed, acquired or adapted and disseminated to assist in achieving strategy goals and objectives.
  • Build the capacity of staff and implementing partners in the use of evidence based technical models and methods for nutrition program implementation and monitoring developed.
  • Responsible for building and nurturing relevant networks, advocacy coalitions and policy forums established/ engaged with to inform and influence from WVK’s experience and to enhance organizational learning
  • Conduct needs assessments, surveys and researches related to nutrition, Health & HIV and WASH programming facilitated
  • Render technical support in strategy development for new or long-term or additional interventions and in preparation of new proposals.
  • Provide guidelines and tools for design,  implementation and monitoring of health and nutrition interventions developed and disseminated to staff and/or partners
  • Responsible for the implementation of nutrition interventions closely monitored to ensure adherence to WHO standards, National policy guidelines and WVU strategic direction
  • Robust internal linkages with other sub-sectors/sectors including HIV, WASH,  Food Security, Child Protection and Disaster Risk Reduction strengthened so as to foster:
  • Integration in planning and implementation of field based programs and projects
  • Integrated responses to emergencies and disasters
  • Responsible for routine nutrition sector reports compiled and submitted to the Associate Director Health and HIV/AIDS on monthly, quarterly and annual basis and ad hoc updates on nutrition provided as and when requested
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal NGO candidate should possess a good Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science and Technology or Human Nutrition & Dietetics from a recognized University.
  • Possession of a good Masters’ degree in Public Health Nutrition is an added advantage.
  • Additional Training of Trainers qualification in Nutrition and WASH, Nutrition and HIV, Nutrition and Food Security, and Nutrition in Emergencies would be an added advantage.
  • Past exposure and experience in implementing Maternal and Child Nutrition related interventions within health programs of large NGOs of not less than three years
  • Excellent facilitation and verbal communication skills.
  • Good computer literacy skills with ability to write technical reports, concepts and proposals.
  • Mature Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities
