Job Summary: The Labour Officer / Industrial Relations Officer will implement Labour Relation policies of unionized staff in the University in line with Labor Laws

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a mechanism for conflict resolution in line with Human Resources polices and labour laws.
  • Review and implement Human Resources policies in line with the Labour Laws.
  • Develop, review, recommend and implement policies on sexual harassment in line with Human Resources policies.
  • Develop, review and recommend a policy on sports/recreation for staff in line with Human Resources policies.
  • Implement, monitor and update staff leave schedules in line with Human Resources policy.
  • Handle staff grievances in line with set standards and guidelines
  • Liaise with the University Hospital in handling Workman’s Compensation

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant should possess a Masters’ degree in Human Resource Management or Organizational Psychology or MBA (Human Resource option) OR a Masters degree with a postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource management from a recognized Institution/University OR An Honors Bachelors degree in Human Resource management or Business Studies or Industrial Psychology or Arts/Social Sciences or Education or its equivalent from recognized institution/university
  • At least three years of HRM work experience in a large complex and reputable organization handling labour matters
  • Computer literacy skills
  • Good interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Proven Counseling Skills
  • Working Knowledge of Labour Laws
  • Familiarity with the Employment Act (2006) of Uganda
  • Knowledge of the Universities and other Tertiary Institutions Act
  • Knowledge of other Labour Laws

Age: Less than 50 years
