Save the Children is looking for applications from qualified people to apply for the job of Director of Finance.

Job Summary: The Director of Finance is a member of the Senior Management Team in Uganda and shares in the overall responsibility for the direction and coordination of the Country Office. The Director of Finance in his/her capacity is responsible for finance administration, fiscal management, grant management, and financial and grant reporting, in both emergency and development programming contexts.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant should hold at least eight years experience in a senior role in a corporate or an NGO environment, three of which should be at a management level within the finance department of a national or international organization.
  • Additional professional qualification such as CPA, CA, ACMA, ACCA.
  • Excellent understanding of business and financial planning including strategic modeling, financial systems and procedures.
  • Excellent analytical skills – the ability to analyse complex financial data and design and produce effective management information.
  • Excellent experience of budgeting and budget management.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to contribute to strategic decisions.
  • Experience of general administration work.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage a complex and diverse workload and to work to tight deadlines.
  • Possess the ability to build a small, proactive team, motivating staff and working collaboratively with colleagues and providing support and advice as necessary.
  • Willingness and ability to dramatically change work practices and hours, and work with incoming surge teams, in the event of emergencies.
  • A full appreciation of the value of co-operation, both internationally and within a team environment.
  • Experience of working with local partners and District Local Government in Child Rights Governance, Health, Nutrition, Education, HIV/AIDS or Child Protection is an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.
  • Possess the ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.
  • Willingness to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.
  • Computer literacy skills
  • Excellent documentation skills are a must.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to intervene with crisis management or troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching
  • Excellent time management and planning capacity.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
  • Good understanding of Save the Children’s vision and mission and a commitment to its objectives and values.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively in country.
    Written and verbal fluency in English.
