Job Title:  Communication and Documentation Officer

Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) is a national Ugandan organization that was established in 1991 as a medical institution and HIV AIDS Centre of Excellence specializing in medical research, health care and training.

Job Summary: The Communication and Documentation Officer will assist the SCHIPA project and key communication functions of JCRC. The jobholder will support the project implementation and promote visibility through documentation and dissemination of project activities including the CSO capacity building initiative to identify practices and feasible capacity building models for replication.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in the production of project activity and periodic reports (i.e. quarterly reports, project review reports etc)
  • Establish a continuous process of information gathering on CSOs’ capacity building initiative and generate booklets on best practices and models for replication.
  • Promote and build the capacity of CSOs in communication and documentation of their work
  • Prepare sessions for learning and reflection for CSO teams on their capacity building initiatives and other project experiences.
  • Steer the development, editing and publication of project materials such as newsletters, backgrounders, reports, web materials, news stories to depict the achievements and success stories of SCHIPA that can be replicated
  • Offer leadership and work with the SCHIPA department and JCRC to develop and edit scientific papers for publication that depict project achievements that can guide policy makers in adoption of best practices for policy change
  • Deliver a complete report of tasks achieved and make recommendations to support the communications function of JCRC for future projects
  • Actively collaborate with SCHIPA program management to plan, prepare and provide strategies for public engagements opportunities to include surveys, workshops, open days to disseminate project achievements within focus districts.
  • Works closely with the Capacity Building Coordinator and M&E Specialist to ensure all relevant resource materials for the project are well served throughout the project areas.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Project Manager SCHIPA

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant should have some training in Public Health or Communications
  • Five or more years’ experience in health communication and documentation will be of an added advantage.
  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively using various communication tools.
  • Possess excellent computer skills especially in the routinely used packages – Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Communication and documentation skills
  • Possess the ability to multitask effectively
  • Working knowledge and experience working with or supporting public health systems for improved HIV/AIDS care.
