In a new interview, a family source close to Ryan Lochte revealed the elite athlete betrayed his wife more than once.
Ryan Lochte has seen his personal affairs put on full display since his wife, Kayla Reid, revealed she filed for divorce.
In her statement, the Florida-based real estate agent, 33, expressed her desire to handle her split from Lochte privately.
However, a new exposé is shedding more light on what may have been happening behind the scenes, with a source close to the couple alleging the “Traitors” star repeatedly betrayed the mother of his three children.

The Blast reported on Reid’s initial divorce announcement in early June 2025, revealing the former Playboy Playmate had submitted official documents to end her marriage to Lochte in March of that year.
“I hold marriage in the highest regard, so this has been one of the most painful, revealing, and challenging seasons of my life. I’ve been hesitant to share until I could do so from a place of healing — not from fresh, open wounds,” she wrote in a statement on Instagram.
She continued, “Sometimes we face trials we didn’t choose or see coming. And in those moments, we’re forced to make the hardest decisions to protect our peace, our children, and our future. I’ve come to the understanding that staying isn’t always the most loving decision someone can make. For me, leaving was an act of love — for those around me and for myself.”
Ryan Lochte Allegedly Struggled With Infidelity
A source close to the family told PEOPLE that Lochte repeatedly betrayed Reid, whom he married in 2018, throughout their marriage.
“He’s damaged so much of their marriage and he’s broken her heart so many times that she doesn’t know if reconciliation is in their future,” the source claimed.
But the insider didn’t end there. They also revealed the swimmer allegedly struggled with infidelity, which Reid had kept “under wraps” for his sake.
The source added that Reid protected Lochte and their marriage for years and had hoped their relationship would improve over time.
“It just got so bad that she actually felt like by leaving he’ll have to be court-mandated to get help, essentially. And that’s all she wants,” the source said, “is for him to be healthy and him to be well.”
Ryan Lochte Recently Dismissed Claims Of Infidelity
Lochte, however, denied the recent claims made by a family source and stated that his and Reid’s divorce is a “difficult and very personal time.”
“Kayla and I both wish to keep this matter private for many reasons, most importantly, to protect our children,” he continued. “For that reason, I also won’t be commenting on this matter or replying to allegations made by third parties.”
When initially replying to Reid’s divorce statement in June 2025, Lochte had shared a similar message, writing, “Although this decision hasn’t been easy, I believe it’s the right step toward peace and well-being for us both. I remain committed to healing, growth, and co-parenting with care and respect as we move forward separately.”
Lochte And Reid’s Financial Woes Uncovered
Meanwhile, days after the news of Lochte and Reid’s divorce became public, their financial woes also became a topic of conversation, likely adding even more commotion during an already hectic time.
According to a previous report from The Blast, Lochte and Reid owed over $270,000 in debt to various vendors.
Part of their debt includes a $99,696.09 balance with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for the years 2021 and 2022.
Additionally, the local homeowners association in Gainesville, Florida, where Lochte and Reid lived together with their three children, Caiden, Liv, and Georgia, filed a $2,231.76 lien on their home in December 2024 for several “unpaid” fees, including “special assessments, late fees, costs of collection [and] attorney’s fees.”
Furthermore, a nonprofit organization, Shands Teaching Hospital and Clinic, also filed a lien for $127,977.73, which includes unpaid bills the Olympian accrued while reportedly spending two days receiving treatment in a Florida medical facility.
The same medical facility is also seeking an additional $39,720.15 for treatment the swimmer reportedly received in February 2024.
The Father Of Three Thanks Fans For Support
On social media, Lochte thanked his supporters for their encouragement and uplifting words during this challenging time.
“Just wanna say thank you to everyone that wrote a message, reached out to me,” Lochte said in a video. “Just open arms. It means a lot to me. Yesterday was a rough day for me, but, like always in life, you’ve got to put one foot in front of the other and keep moving forward.”
The Olympic Gold medalist continued, “And that’s what I’m doing. To my second family that sent me this beautiful card, and a basket full of candy that now my son is eating.”
“Thank you guys, I love you guys,” he finished.
