The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) has welcomed two Turkish students into its English Proficiency Program, marking the second batch under the initiative. Last year, four female students from Turkey completed the certificate course.
The students were received at the IUIU Main Campus on March 12, 2024, by Dr. Jamil Serwanga, Vice-Rector in charge of Academic Affairs, and Dr. Halima Wakabi Akbar, the Academic Registrar.
The program, run by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences under the Department of Language, Linguistics, and Literature, is part of an ongoing collaboration between IUIU and universities in Turkey.
Dr. Serwanga underscored the program’s role in enhancing English proficiency among international students, especially from non-English-speaking countries. “The program is open to students, teachers, and the general public, with centers at the main and Kampala campuses,” he said. “Apart from English, we also offer courses in Arabic, Swahili, and French to further strengthen our international engagement.”
