The Parliamentary Commission of Uganda serves the following functions;

  • To appoint, promote and exercise disciplinary control over persons holding public office in Parliament;
  • To review the terms and conditions of service, standing orders, training and qualifications  of persons holding office in Parliament;
  • To provide a Parliamentary reporting service;
  • To provide such other staff and facilities as are required to ensure efficient functioning of the Parliament;
  • To cause to be prepared in each financial year, estimates of revenue and expenditure for the next financial year; and
  • To make recommendations to Parliament, or with the approval of Parliament, determine the allowances payable and privileges available to the Speaker and Members of Parliament.
Job Summary: The Assistant Editor will transcribe and edit proceedings of Parliament.

Job Tittle: Assistant Editor of Hansard (9)

Organisation: The Parliamentary Commission of Uganda

Reports To: Senior Assistant Editor of Hansard
Salary Scale: PC 4
Ref: P3/EXT/07/13
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Transcribe audio tapes and carry out a first edit of parliamentary debates in line with laid down Hansard editing guidelines
  • Do verification/clarification of MPs’ speeches
  • Collaborate the Members’ log with transcripts to confirm accuracy
  • Send transcripts for 2nd edit to the Senior Assistant Editor of Hansard
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
  • The applicant should posses an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism and Communication; or Arts with Literature and English Language Studies (ELS) studied as subjects, or Arts with Education, majoring in Literature and English Language Studies (ELS) from a recognized University/Institution
  • Proficiency in transcribing and editing
  • Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
  • Good eye for detail
