Job Title: Project Officer – Oil and Gas

The Government of Uganda is implementing a Project “Strengthening Safeguards, Safety and Health at Workplaces (SSASHEW) (2013/14 – 2017/18), under the Ministry of Gender, Labour Social Development whose objective is to promote safeguards, safety and health measures at workplaces.

The project is being implemented in fifty (50) districts of Uganda focusing on handling safeguards, safety and health concerns in the areas of oil and gas exploration and production, manufacturing, tourism, construction sites and public workplaces/offices.
Job Summary: The Project Officer – Oil and Gas will be responsible for occupational safety and health systems in oil and gas upstream, mid-stream and downstream operations. He/She will ensure that private operators, exploration and production companies comply with all aspects of occupational safety and health laws and standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Technically guide the Commissioner on all aspects of OSH in oil and gas exploration production and decommissioning and all matters relating to the safety of burning installations
  • Inspection of all activities in all decision gates of oil and gas business including testing of equipment and gas pipes
  • Responsible for the inspection of generating and storage installations of Liauefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)
  • Investigate accidents involving the use of transportation and storage of gas fuels.
  • Develop, review and enforce oil and gas laws related to OSH
  • Conduct research and publish reports on OSH in plants and equipment operations, maintenance, quality, disposal among others.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned to you by your supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Civil/ Chemistry Engineering and Master’s Degree in Petroleum Operations or related disciplines.
  • Three or more years’ experience in Occupational Safety and Health in Oil and gas Industry.
  • Additional training in information technology will be added advantage.
  • Exceptional skills in teamwork, self-drive integrity and be accountable for their actions.
