KIU Clinical Medicine Graduates to be Registered by Allied Health Professionals Council

Graduates of Bachelor of Clinical Medicine and Community Health (BCMCH) from Kampala International University are to be formally registered and recognised by the Allied Health Professionals Council (AHPC).

This was communicated by the Registrar of the council, Dr Patrick Mpiima Kibirango in a letter to regional Allied Health Supervisors.

“This is to inform you that the council has finalized procedures of clearance for registration of graduates of Clinical Medicine and Community Health-KIU,” reads the letter.

“You are therefore hereby authorized to start registration of these cadres effective 4th to 30th June 2020 to enable a smooth process of placement scheduled for 1st July 2020,” the letter adds.

Martin Okumu, who graduated with a Bachelor of Clinical Medicine from KIU in 2018, welcomed this development.

“This is a milestone!” Okumu said “This is what we have been yearning for, for close to two years. I am so much happy about this development,” he added.

This is a welcome development for graduates of this course, who have been advocating for recognition as health professionals from AHPC since the course was accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). Last month, graduates of Clinical Medicine wrote a letter to the speaker of Parliament, Hon Rebecca Kadaga, requesting that they are considered for registration.
