KIU Western Campus to Hold Medical Camp in Alebtong District

Kampala International University( KIU) , Western Campus  is going to hold a 5-day Medical Camp in Alebtong District from July 3-7.

The 5-day Medical Camp is spear handed by the Lango Students Association.

According to Ray Maxwell Odongo, the Project Manager of the Association, they will offer a range of services including general consultation, blood donation, cervical cancer screening, minor surgeries, malaria testing, child health and immunization, maternal health and family planning, HIV/AIDS testing and counseling and health education among others.

“We are doing this to give back to our community. It is hard for the government and private sector health services to reach the deepest areas of our community yet there are people who need these services,” Odongo said.

“It is also of great significance to us because it will create awareness in the community because they will see firsthand the competence of KIU medical students. They have been hearing that KIU is a very good university but had never fully got the chance to prove this notion,” he added.

The camp will be held at Alebtong Health Center IV and the medical team will comprise of specialists from the departments of paediatrics, surgery as well as a Senior Medical Officer, gynaecologist, senior nurse, senior clinician, pharmacist plus students who will act as assistants.

The camp is projected to benefit over 400 people and according to Odongo, it will also be an opportunity for students to get hands-on skills.
