Lionel Messi Wins Seventh Ballon d’Or Award

Paris Saint-Germain(PSG) superstar Lionel Messi, won the men’s  65th Ballon d’Or awards hosted in Paris on the night of Monday, November 29.

Messi, 34, held off the challenge of Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, and Chelsea’s Jorginho among the 31 players to be crowned winner of the prize for the seventh time.

Messi picked the award after a scintillating 2020/21 season that saw him win titles with both Barcelona and the national team.

Despite Barca’s relatively poor season, Messi scored two goals as Barca won the Copa del Rey final and he was La Liga’s top goalscorer once more, before switching to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer. Lewandowski did pick up the consolation prize of the newly formed Striker of the Year award, while the Women’s Ballon d’Or went to Barcelona captain Alexia Putellas
