Makerere University Guild President,5 Others Arrested Heading to Education Ministry For a petition

Makerere University Guild President Mr. Iván Ssempijja and other students have today been arrested by Police in Kampala.

Mr. Ssempijja had led a group of students who were marching to the Offices of Ministry of Education and Sports to deliver appetition which seeks to address the Online studies challenges amongst students.

In their petition dated 26 -July-2021, the Guild president demanded for waiver on functional fees which are attached to the fees students pay per academic year.

Among other issues, the president demands reversal of 12% internet tax to facilitate ease of accessibility to learning.

The Guild with fellow students were also requesting the education ministry to come out with a comprehensive plan for full reopening of University for physical learning to continue, including a clear plane for mass vaccination of students.
