Mawanda Derick has been elected Guild President of Nkumba University for the academic year 2025/2026. He got 466 votes.

Atuna Sabrine Henry, Chairperson of the 30th Guild Electoral Committee, declared Mawanda the winner on Saturday, April 26.

The other two contestants in the race, Katende Muhammad and Alinda Marvin, received 379 and 296 votes, respectively.

In his victory speech, Mawanda credited his success to divine intervention. “It is not by mistake that we are here; we did not do this on our own, but it is by the power of God that we made it,” he said.

Katende Muhammad conceded defeat and congratulated Mawanda on his win. His supporter, Nusurah Hajarah, also accepted the outcome, stating, “We always expect a winner in any election.”

Kakooza William, Vice Chairperson of the Guild Electoral Committee, praised the students for maintaining discipline and thanked the Uganda Police Force for ensuring law and order throughout the process.
