Mbarara University of Science and Technology holds 10th Annual Research Conference

Mbarara University of Science and Technology held its 10th Annual Research Dissemination Conference at a colorful event held at the Lake View Hotel, Mbarara on 10th December 2014. The conference was organised by the university’s Faculty of Science under the theme ’25 years of Innovative Research for Community Transformation and Sustainability’ and was one of the key activities to mark the 25th anniversary of the university.

The function was presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Celestino Obua.  The Regional Coordinator of Lake Victoria Research Initiative (VicRes) at the Inter University Council for East Africa, Prof. Joseph Obua, presented the keynote address under the theme; ‘Innovative Research for Transformation of Society: What is Expected and Areas for Improvement’.

The Guest Address was presented by Prof. Peter Kanyandago, Director of Research, Uganda Marytrs University under the topic; ‘Research and Transforming the Lives and Livelihoods of our People’. Dr. Yap Boum II, the outgoing Director of the Medecins Sana Frontiers/Epicentre Research Centre-Mbarara gave the plenary lecture under the topic, ‘The long walk to freedom or how to build research capacity: The Epicentre Experience.’

The conference was attended by over 200 participants from the academia and general public and also saw 77 oral presentations.
