President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged youth mobilizers under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to prioritize meaningful transformation in their communities over short-lived political excitement.
Addressing youth groups at the State Lodge in Mbale, Museveni said genuine mobilization must focus on identifying and solving the daily challenges Ugandans face, especially poverty. He cautioned that crowds and songs alone do not translate into sustainable political support.
“When you talk of mobilization, you must ask, how are these people? Are they in a good situation or a bad situation, especially poverty? The real mobilization is to get people out of poverty,” Museveni said.
The engagement brought together mobilizers from the Buganda Youth Caucus, National Youth Council, Buganda Ku Museveni, National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps, Yellow Power Movement, and several district-level NRM youth groups. The delegation was led by Ms. Hellen Seku, Commissioner of the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps.
Museveni emphasized that lasting political loyalty is earned when citizens experience visible improvements in their livelihoods, not when they are merely entertained or mobilized for rallies.
“People should understand their problems and how to solve them instead of just moving around singing. They may support you for networking, but the impact is small,” he added.
The President attributed the growing support at NRM rallies to the peace and stability achieved under his leadership and to government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), which he said is now directly benefiting households. He explained that earlier programs failed because they relied on intermediaries, leading to inefficiency and corruption.
Museveni also reminded the youth of lessons from the Luweero liberation struggle, stressing that successful mobilization is rooted in understanding people’s real needs and providing practical, affordable solutions.
“This mobilization does not need a lot of money. The only money you may need is your own transport for fuel, not refund,” he said.
He reiterated his long-standing Four Acre Model — coffee, fruits, pasture for livestock, and food crops — describing it as a proven approach for household wealth creation and rural transformation.
Museveni urged the mobilizers to study Uganda’s socio-economic structure and understand how people, the economy, and politics interconnect. He said transformation starts with changing attitudes toward work and productivity.
“We had to find out what was stopping our people from joining the money economy. Real mobilization starts with diagnosing those problems,” he emphasized.
Youth representatives, including Mr. Henry Luzinda from Wakiso, Ms. Sawuya Nambatta from Buganda Ku Museveni, and Mr. Pauson Twinamatsiko, thanked the President for supporting initiatives like the Parish Development Model and the proposed Graduate Fund, which they said are already improving youth livelihoods.
“We commit to take this message village to village so that the youth who graduate and haven’t found a job can benefit from your initiative,” Luzinda said.
