The Physics Department at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) has a reason to smile after securing funds to carry out research in Astrophysics and Space Science.
The department’s pocket has grown more richer with Swedish Krona amounting to One Million Two Hundred Thousand (1,200,000 SEK)
The grant comes after the Director of International Science Program (ISP), Professor Ernst van Groningen visit to MUST in May last year.
The Physics Department was invited to apply for research grants from ISP and in October last year, Dr Edward Jurua and Dr Simon Anguma were invited to defend the proposal they had submitted.
“I am glad to inform the Physics fraternity and MUST community at large that the proposal was successful and for the next three years, the Physics department will receive Swedish Krona, One Million Two Hundred Thousand (1,200,000 SEK)”, the announcement read.
The secured funds will be used to enhance postgraduate training in Astrophysics and Space Science. Part of it will cater for paying tuition, procuring computers, subscription to Journals, and supporting visiting astronomers from Sweden and South Africa to teach at MUST.
