Over 2000 pupils in Rakai have missed school due to persistent floods

Schools and pupils in Rakai district have been greatly affected by the rains which have caused prolonged flooding in their areas.

The rising water levels at some of the landing sites around Lake Kijanebarola have contributed to the floods in the area.

Roads have been flooded and this has affected many activities in the region. Transport from one area to another has become difficult which has made it hard for pupils to access schools.

The most affected primary schools include Kamengo-Nsonso. Kibuta-Kiruuli, Lwemisege and Byakabanda. Some of the schools have closed due to the floods.

Different Head teachers of the schools affected have cried out to government and UNRA to ensure that the damaged roads are repaired to ease transport.

Farmers have also been affected as they are making losses since they can’t reach their market.
