President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has pledged continued support to the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom as it marked the 31st Coronation Anniversary of Omukama Dr. Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I.
The celebration, held on June 11, 2025, at Karuzika Palace in Hoima City, drew large crowds of kingdom subjects, officials, and government representatives.
In his address, President Museveni congratulated the people of Bunyoro and praised the Kingdom’s contribution to national development.
The President expressed concern over the Omukama’s health and urged citizens to pray for his recovery.

He highlighted the 1993 restoration of cultural institutions by the NRM government as a deliberate step to empower traditional leadership and strengthen Uganda’s cultural identity.
“Cultural institutions are critical for preserving indigenous languages, customs, and promoting social transformation,” he said.
Museveni urged cultural leaders to steer clear of partisan politics and focus on their core mission of preserving heritage.
“Leave politics to the people. Your role is to protect language, promote traditional foods, and support community development,” he emphasized.
He shared his personal health philosophy, crediting traditional foods like cassava, mingled millet, and milk for his fitness at 80 years.
“I don’t eat bread or rice. Our traditional foods are healthier,” he noted.
The President identified four key areas where cultural institutions can contribute meaningfully: safeguarding indigenous languages, promoting traditional diets, maintaining rational customs, and supporting socio-economic development.
Hon. Grace Mary Mugasa, Minister of State for Public Service, also addressed the gathering and thanked the President for consistently supporting Bunyoro-Kitara. She congratulated the Kingdom on its milestone anniversary.
The event was marked with cultural performances, tributes to the Omukama, and a renewed sense of pride among the Banyoro.
