The new Vice Chancellor of Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Prof. Celestino Obua officially assumed office on Friday, 24th October 2014 at a ceremony held at Mbarara University Inn. The outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. F.I.B Kayanja was also honoured for his dedicated years of service as the founding Vice Chancellor of the university.

The colorful Ceremony was witnessed by the Minister of Education, Hon. Maj (Rtd). Jessica Alupo; the university Chancellor, Prof. Peter N. Mugyenyi; the Chairperson of the University Council, Dr. Ben Mbonye; The Deputy Vice Chanceller, Prof. Pamela Mbabazi amongst others.

Prof. Obua becomes the second Vice Chancellor of Mbarara university of science and Technology, after Prof. Kayanja, who served the university from its inception in 1989 until 2014.

Prof. Obua obtained his Doctorate as Professor of Pharmacology at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden having obtained a Master’s Degree in Pharmacology from Makerere University and a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Dar-es-Salaam.

He has served as Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor at Makerere University. His most recent posting was as the Deputy Principal of the College of Health Sciences, Makerere University.

Prof. Obua is a married father with three children.
