Busitema University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Paul Waako, has been elected Chairperson of the University Vice Chancellors’ Forum (UVCF), succeeding Prof.
George Openjuru Ladaah of Gulu University.
The election, held on February 17, 2025, ushers in a new leadership for the UVCF, which represents heads of Uganda’s 54 accredited universities—11 public and 43 private institutions—that collectively serve over 200,000 students nationwide.
Prof. Waako, a pharmacologist, brings extensive experience in academic leadership to the role. The UVCF, established in 1997, provides a platform for university leaders to collaborate on challenges facing higher education.

His tenure is expected to focus on strengthening institutional partnerships, improving academic standards, and addressing key concerns in Uganda’s university sector.
