Seeta University, Uganda’s newest Science, Environment, Engineering, Technology and Agriculture institution, is set to open in August 2025 with ambitions to bridge the country’s technical skills shortage and nurture globally competitive graduates.
Founded in the late 2000s, the university aims to deliver practical, morally grounded education that meets Uganda’s economic transformation objectives.
SEETA embraces four core pillars—Contemporary Technology, Competence‑Based Education, Co‑operative Education and Entrepreneurship—to equip students for real‑world challenges.
The university offers professional degrees, diplomas, certificates and short courses, available through day, evening and weekend programs.
Over the past five years, SEETA has expanded its infrastructure, launched demand‑driven programs, equipped laboratories, built institutional systems, and strengthened faculty and staff capacity.
It has also forged partnerships with regulatory bodies such as the National Council for Higher Education and Ministry of Education and Sports.
The university plans to align its operations with Uganda’s Vision 2040, NDP IV, African Union Agenda 2063, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
In a move toward internationalization, SEETA recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the UK’s Teesside University.
Under the agreement, science students will complete a three‑year degree by studying two years in Uganda and finishing in the UK, supplementing local training with overseas exposure.
Mr Ronald Mbago, SEETA’s Academic Registrar, said: “Our goal is to put out globally acceptable products that can be easily assimilated in any sector … both at home and abroad”.
Dr Maurice Tamale, Deputy Vice‑Chancellor Administration and Finance, added that the exchange will bolster students’ practical and employability prospects.
Dr Lawrence Nyazi, PhD Programme Director, noted that the partnership offers “hope for training Ugandan students with international expertise, and in effect, making them … employable”.
Vice-President Watson of Teesside University confirmed their investment in labs, teaching space and affordable payment structures for SEETA students.
With capacity for undergraduate training in disciplines such as nursing, public health, pharmacy, biochemistry, law, industrial mathematics, software engineering, computer science and information technology , SEETA is positioning itself as Uganda’s flagship science and technology institution.
The university’s strategic focus on hands-on education and global linkages positions it as a critical driver for economic growth and skills development in Uganda.
