The staff at public universities in Uganda have agreed to go on strike over government’s failure to allocate money for their salary increment in the 2018/2019 budget.
The decision to lay down their tools was reached during a meeting attended by different staff associations from the public universities across the country.
The meeting was held at Makerere University.
Dr Grace Lubaale, the chairperson of the public universities academic staff association said both teaching and non-teaching staff want government to fulfil its 138 billion shillings promise for salary enhancement.
He said that the strike is planned to start on 3rd August 2018 before the opening of the new academic year for 2018/2019.
