Allan Abenawa Law Student at Uganda Christian University (UCU) was elected As the Speaker of the Third National Youth Parliament through a scientifid election on 14th augut 2020.
Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic the event virtual, live on TV and social media.
Abenawa emerged victorious with 96 votes; the event was organized by WFD in collaboration with the European Union, Faraja Africa Foundation, Action Aid Uganda, Restless Development Uganda, the National Youth Council, and other stakeholders.
The guest speaker was the Ambassador of the European Union, H.E. Attilio Pacifici and the parliament was opened by the Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda.
This year, the National Youth Parliament focused much on support for advocacy and important issues like days of activism, public policy training, capacity building leadership training, consultation meetings, and digital dialogue with the main parliament, among others.
The National Youth Parliament is an important political and legislative space and creative advocacy vehicle that brings together young people from across the country and youth focused organisations to amplify youth voices to legislators.
