Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an independently governed institute within the College of Health Sciences at Makerere University and has the mission “To strengthen health systems in Africa, with a strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through research and capacity development.” IDI has operations across Uganda as well as in a number of other African countries and has a staffing of over 1,000 managing multiple projects in research, clinical services, public health and training.

 

Job Summary: Provision quality comprehensive HIV counseling services to clients, their partners, family members and communities to respond to the HIV epidemic initiatives.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all newly identified positive clients are linked and initiated on Art in facilities of their choice.
  • Implement Assisted Partner Notification (APN) with a focus on interviewing and elicitation of sexual contacts at service points.
  • To offer quality intensive adherence counseling (IAC) to all identified non-suppressing clients.
  • Conducts health education sessions on ART clinic days in supporting
  • Document in the relevant data tools, compile MoH reports and related program reports.
  • The incumbent will also support health facilities in setting up peer support groups and facilitating meetings for special populations of people living with HIV.
  • Perform any other duties as may reasonably be assigned from time to time by the team leader.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal applicant must hold a Diploma in Social Work Social Administration, Development Studies, Community and Adult Education, Social Sciences, Community Psychology, Guidance and counseling from a reputable Institution

  • At least two years of working experience in an HIV/AIDS Clinical setting
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate in local languages within the supported districts is a must
  • HIV/AIDS Counseling Certificate is an added advantage
  • One year of experience in HIV counseling in a busy clinical setting
  • Willingness to travel and provide care services at selected health facilities
  • Willingness to work and live in rural areas is required
