We are an international NGO committed to environmental protection active in almost 100 countries. WWF has a growing conservation Programme in the Republic of Uganda. WWF Uganda Country Office (WWF UCO) works with central and local government agencies, private sector, civil society organizations (CSOs) and the local communities to implement its various conservation programmes on Energy and Climate, Forestry and Wildlife, and Freshwater in Uganda.

Job Summary:  The Community Conservation Officer will support Forestry and Wildlife Programme in implementing the Triple Benefit Project Entitled: Strengthening Civil Society role in promoting Nature-based Solutions for people, climate and biodiversity in Greater Virunga Landscape, Uganda. She/ he will implement actions related to the Triple Benefit Project (Entitled: Strengthening Civil Society role in promoting Nature-based Solutions for people, climate and biodiversity in Greater Virunga Landscape, Uganda.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support Preparation and implementation of activity work plans and budgets in line with WWF UCO project guidelines,
  • Support Planning of training and capacity building for targeted groups in the project area in line with WWF UCO guidelines and project documentation,
  • Work with the CSOs and other community groups to deliver on Project Activities.
  • Ensuring integrity, and timely accountability for project resources,
  • Implement advocacy and awareness raising activities through sensitization meetings at local level with key partners in line with the WWF project guidelines,
  • Work with the Project team to implement the project’s monitoring and evaluation plan;
  • Ensure compliance and provide support in ongoing project assessment,
  • Document best practices and lessons learnt in relation to the set performance indicators in line with the M&E framework
  • Work with the team to ensure timely project’s reporting in line with WWF guidelines.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s (honors) degree in environmental studies, climate change and development, forestry, natural resource management or related field.
  • A training in project planning and management, M&E, is an asset.
  • At least three years of work experience in a field related to biodiversity conservation, climate change, nature-based enterprises, community livelihoods and other related fields;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills about biodiversity, forestry, environmental, and or other natural resources issues to specialists as well as non-specialist
  • Experience in areas of conservation advocacy to influence policy will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in organization development related work for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Community Based Organisations (CBOs) will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in Ecological and Socio-economic data collection, analysis.
  • Experience in GPS mobile data collection apps, tools and use of GIS for Mapping will be an added advantage
  • Fluency in English and at least one other major language spoken (Swahili, Luo and/or Runyakitara) in the Albertine Graben.

  • Highly developed conceptual, analytical and innovative problem-solving ability;
  • Demonstrate ability to handle complex process and information integration issues;
  • Experience in training at the field/community level with good reporting skills.
  • Strong community mobilization skills
  • Makes conscious efforts to promote cooperative practices, behaviors, and ways of working across many groups and individuals.
  • Good knowledge in the use of the Google Workplace apps, and Microsoft Office (especially word, power point and advanced excel)
  • Ability to speak, read and write one of the local languages spoken in the project areas.
  • Ability to establish priorities and to plan, budget, coordinate and monitor work plan.
  • Excellent organization skills; Excellent oral and written communications skills;
