Editor, Law Reports Job at Law Development Centre (LDC)

Job Title:  Editor, Law Reports

The Law Development Centre (LDC) has a mandate to provide legal education to lawyers and non lawyers, undertake research in topical legal issues, contribute to legal reform, produce legal publications, teaching materials, law reports and also provide community legal services. Some of It’s key functions include;

  • To provide legal training to lawyers and non lawyers
  • To research into topical legal issues and recommend proposals for law reform
  • To provide law reports and legal publications
  • To provide community legal services

Job Summary: The Law Reports Editor will primarily select, edit, compile law reports and ensure quality control of information printed and published through the department.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Edit information for printing and publishing.
  • Responsible for quality control of information printed and published.
  • Collect judgments from all Courts in Uganda.
  • Organise for the editing and summarizing of the ULR and HCB.
  • Style transcripts of ULR and HCB.
  • Prepare editorial plan budget and supplies.
  • Carry out manuscript review and production.
  • Prepare and maintain files of ULR and HCB.
  • Perform any other work assigned by the Head of Department.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant should hold an LLB (Hons) from a recognized university. Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from Law Development Centre.
  • The candidate should preferably hold a Master’s degree in law from a recognized university is an added advantage.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Six or more years’ experience in law reporting work or editing.
  • The applicant must be a person of high integrity.
  • Training in law reporting is an added advantage.
  • The applicant must be an enrolled advocate.

Age: Between 30 – 40 years
