Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) is the leading national humanitarian organization in Uganda and a member of the International Red Cross Red Crescent Movement. The ICRC is an International humanitarian institution which has a mandate to protect victims of international and armed conflicts i.e. the wounded, refugees, civilians, prisoners and other non-combatants.

Job Summary:  The Finance Director will primarily ensure efficient and effective management of the financial management and accounting functions of the Society. To oversee the development and maintenance of the necessary support systems to safeguard assets, and financial operations of the Society.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Formulate and oversee the implementation of a financial management policy for the Society;
• Take charge of the Society’s Accounts Regulatory role, to ensure that operators comply with Accounting Requirements of the society;
• Oversee periodic review and update of the Society’s Accounting System to ensure its viability and efficiency in meeting the needs of the Society;
• Overall control of income and expenditure and generally the financial administration of  the Society;
• Advise management on control of costs and achievement of budget plans by interpretation of regular financial information;
• Ensure fair costing and pricing of society’s services in liaison with other departments;
• Oversee the timely preparations for annual audits of the National Society accounts;
• Oversee the continuous development of the society’s computerization strategy in order to keep up with new technological innovations;
• Represent the society in negotiations, funding and rescheduling of payments.
• Oversee management of loans, grants and assets;
• Ensure preparation of periodic management reports and timely submission of final accounts to the Secretary General and the Board as required;
• Oversee the Financial Budgeting and Budgetary control activities and ensure preparation of Business Plan with financial targets and performance indicators.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

• The ideal candidate must hold a Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or any related field from a reputable institution;
• Professional qualification in ACCA, CPA, CFA etc.;
• Relevant professional qualifications and training in Finance management, Business plan development, Resource mobilisation, Project/business financial appraisals and risk management will be of added advantage.
• At least ten years of accounting experience in a large organization with at least 5 years in a Senior Management position;
• Experience in using Financial Management Information Systems (NAVISON accounting package is an added advantage).
• Budgeting and budgetary control;
• Financial analysis;
• Donor financial accounting procedures
