Job Title: Training / Outreach Officers (9 Vacancies)

War Child Canada works in Uganda with war-affected communities to help children reclaim their childhood through access to education, opportunity and justice. War Child Canada takes an active role in raising public awareness around the impact of war on communities and the shared responsibility to act. When war itself ends, the consequences endure. A lack of employment opportunities, the absence of effective economic or social structures, an under-educated population and a culture of impunity around rights violations combine to create conditions that make a return to conflict all too possible. But by making a long-term investment to create an environment in which childhood can thrive, the cycle of violence can be broken. War Child Canada is a registered Canadian charity based in Toronto and currently works in Afghanistan, Sudan, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone and Uganda.

About Programs:

War Child Canada has been implementing Access to Justice and Protection Programs for Women and Child Survivors throughout Northern Uganda for the past nine years. This program is extending to the refugee settlements in the West Nile region and Western Uganda. WCC seeks to increase the legal protections of children, youth, women and men and address the prevalence of perpetrators’ impunity through legal intervention, awareness raising and capacity building. Our new programs will expand to include Education and Peace building/Youth Engagement interventions.

Job Summary: The Training/Outreach Officer is primarily responsible for mobilization, implementation and development of community sensitization and training activities for community members, first- responders, health workers, judicial officers and law enforcement personnel. S/he will be responsible for conducting awareness campaigns and in depth training sessions encompassing the subject of human rights, SGBV and Child Rights.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and provide community sensitizations and dialogues.
• Offer technical training on SGBV and Child rights to trainers, partners, JLOS, and other relevant actors
• Prepare communication and training materials, and develop new sensitization and training approaches
• Compile and submit timely narrative reports on activities and recommend improvements to the program
• Make follow up visits in each community after activities to assess impact,        and strengthen referral network
• Conduct radio panel discussions
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Team Leader.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• The applicant should preferably hold a University degree in Law, Social Work, Social Sciences, Development Studies or related field.
• Possess the ability and skills in participatory methodology to facilitate trainings with community
• Proficiency in computer packages such as (MS word Excel Power point and Data base)
• Fluency in English and local language is essential.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to prepare timely periodic project reports
