About Spark:
Spark MicroGrants is pioneering a new method of community development. Spark supports rural poor communities to design, implement and manage their own social impact projects. We provide microgrants of between $2,000-$10,000 to enable project implementation, such as of a school, electricity line or farm. No interest or repayment of the funds granted is requested. We work with local Facilitators who lead these communities through a series of weekly meetings to help communities plan for their projects. Once the plan is complete, we give small grants for project implementation.
Job Summary: The Facilitator Fellows will lead weekly meetings with each community where they train them in project design, implementation and management, guide them through the MicroGrant proposal writing process, and provide leadership support. We engage with communities so that they can implement their own development projects. We do not implement the project for the communities. We are looking for Facilitators to help lead rural community meetings and help support community-led development projects. Spark MicroGrants is currently working in seven districts in the eastern region, and expanding to work with new rural communities in the region. Facilitators should expect to live in or near Mbale, Uganda and travel multiple times per week to partner rural communities using matatus, bodas and lots of hiking.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· The Facilitator Fellows must be graduates, or be about to finish University.
· The ideal candidates must have an interest in helping rural areas develop, investigate problems facing rural communities, and supporting communities to address their challenges.
· The Fresh Graduates must be enrolled or have studied qualifications in Public Health, Social Work, Journalism, Development or other related fields.
· The applicants must show dedication and commitment to the cause, have experience engaging with communities and want to lead meetings in rural settings.
· Possess the ability to be flexible and work creatively according to the community’s needs and timeframe is very important.
· Candidates must be fluent in Lugisu and English and Sabin/Kiswahili is an advantage.
