The Makerere University staff have threatened to strike if their salaries are not increased by 100% as promised.
Chairperson Makerere University staff Association (MUASA), Dr. Muhammad Kigundu Musoke told journalists that the lecturers are not happy about the government’s failure to fulfill their salary increment promise.
Kiggundu said government’s failure to include the lecturer’s salary increment in the national budget read recently showed that government is not willing to grant the 100% salary rise to Makerere university staff.
He warned Makerere university council not to call students back for the next semester if the staff’s demands are not solved.
He also advised the Ministry of Education to intervene before the situation worsens.
