Mauricio Pochettino Appointed as Chelsea’s head coach

Mauricio Pochettino has been appointed as Chelsea’s head coach a head of the summer (2023) transfer window.

Chelsea Football Club confirmed the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino yesterday as their head coach of the men’s team from the beginning of the 2023/24 season. The Argentine will begin his new role on 1 July 2023 on a two-year contract, with a club option of a further year.

Pochettino is a coach known for his high-energy, eye-catching style, and he has created a reputation for assisting young players in reaching their full potential with a strong squad mentality.

The 51-year-old has coached in Spain and France as well as several seasons in the Premier League. He was most recently the manager of Paris Saint-Germain, where he led the club to Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France.

Mauricio will be assisted by Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez, and Sebastiano Pochettino.

Many Chelsea players are likely to go this summer, but there will also be some fresh faces. Pochettino and his co-sporting directors, Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, appear to be off to a good start.

Chelsea should prioritize bringing in a striker, a central midfielder, and a goalkeeper this summer. Victor Osimhen has been heavily connected with a frontline replacement for Kai Havertz, while Manuel Ugarte appears ready to partner Enzo Fernandez in an exciting double pivot.

David Raya has been mentioned in connection with being the Blues’ new shot-stopper, yet he is also thought to have piqued the interest of Tottenham. One thing is certain: Pochettino is on the same wavelength as Winstanley and Stewart, which is a good place to start.

Pochettino’s influence on Harry Kane, Tottenham’s fourth-choice striker when he arrived, is well documented. He persuaded Tottenham to continue with Heung-Min Son when the club wanted to switch, and his rehabilitation of Ryan Mason – the player plus person – was exceptional.

But his abilities are in high demand at the club right now. Chelsea has invested £600 million in a bloated squad and requires a figure who can unlock their investment.

There is also sufficient versatility to adapt an approach to a tight, organized shape in the middle of the block. Pochettino’s sides’ assaults have primarily targeted the full-backs, a position in which Chelsea excels.

The list of players who stand to benefit from his hiring is enormous, as Mykhailo Mudryk points out. However, Pochettino will be ruthless in narrowing down a huge squad and removing individuals who are incapable of fulfilling standards or his tactical demands.

Pochettino is an excellent fit for Chelsea. It is up to the club to demonstrate that they are a sensible choice for a top manager.
