Job Title:  Programmes Officer – Leadership Academy

The Uganda Youth Network (UYONET) is a regional focused leading umbrella Youth CSO Network that works to mainstream young peoples’ engagement in development and governance processes in East Africa and beyond. UYONET was started in 2002 to respond to the increasing demand for a collective platform for research, training and policy advocacy for young people by young people. Since inception, UYONET has been positioning the youth to play a leading role in nation building by enhancing their visibility in policy and governance processes across East Africa and providing the necessary infrastructure for information sharing and networking through youth empowerment programmes. With a membership of over 40 youth organizations, UYONET is now at the apex of youth programming and designing appropriate interventions that respond to the diverse needs of the youth across the region.

Job Summary: The Programme Officer – Leadership Academy will be responsible for the day-to-day managing of the UYONET/IRI Leadership Academy engagements, ensuring that the academy produces the specified results outlined in the Annual Work plans and National Strategy documents.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience needed for the job:
  • The ideal candidate for the NGO career vacancy should hold a good first university degree in any discipline from a recognised institution of higher learning.
  • Additional training in project/programme management is an added advantage
  • The applicant should have at least two years’ experience of managing structured leadership/political training programmes in either an academic or civil society setting.
  • Be a team player and leader, capable of steering the programme team towards the requisite results including the development of instructional materials, branded items, coordination of the faculty members and post academy alumni engagements.
  • Highly competent in analyzing and producing programme reports that are designed to draw learning and inform decision-making
  • Possess the ability to develop and manage effective, sustainable and robust partnerships with development actors, academy trainees and political parties
  • Competently informed and analytic about Uganda’s contemporary governance situation and youth civic participation processes.
  • Highly enthusiastic and proficient in the use of diverse social media platforms for engagement, advocacy and information.
