The Significance of Islamic University in Uganda Kampala Campus towards the Development of Kibuli

To allocation of approximately 4 kilometers (2 mi) east of Kampala’s central business district, Kibuli is found and blessed with the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) which is alleged for propelling development in this area.

To define development, this is simply the process that ensures good quality of life to all the people in terms of happiness, harmony and satisfaction of essential needs. It is related to improvement, progress and aspirations of people.

Development can be classified into three categories which include Political, social and economic development however, today we putting our focus on development, physical capital is the start for development and t Physical capital consists of tangible, human-made objects or institution used to produce good for the society.

Relating to Islamic University in Uganda Kampala campus based in Kibuli as a learning institution it has caused development in Kibuli in very many aspects.

Looking at the brief background of Kibuli development status before establishment of IUIU in 1988 by Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) under a bilateral agreement between the Government of Uganda, the people of old age who have call Kibuli “HOME” for whole of their life they narrate to us;

“The Islamic University has caused development indeed because before its its establishment the entire hill was full of wrecked and poor houses around but now good buildings are seen,” Mzee Ssebulima Juma a resident of Kibuli narrates.

Mzee Ssebulima Juma add that the campus has boosted the literacy rate Kibuli as many children get inspired to study and reach University level since is located within Kibuli.

Talking of development furthermore is identified by presence of health facilities, clean water extension, better roads, schools, food markets, accommodation etc but all these come after one major factor is put in place and here in Kibuli the when you ask for the start of development the answers will drive back to IUIU.

Kibuli is experiencing formation of various businesses with so many people are setting up several competing businesses but all targeting the ready available market provided by the University, For instance;

RETAIL AND WHOLE SALE BUSINESS

In any less or no developing location, at a time roadside selling of good is not commonly found however in Kibuli this is seen day and night people selling their products to potential buyers and has helped to bring commodities near the people of Kibuli residents.
