Mr Daniel Odongo, the UNEB executive secretary says a total of 101,269 candidates registered for UACE in 2017 examinations compared to 104,243 who registered in 2016. This shows a decline of 2,974 candidates.
Out of 101269 candidates who registered for the 2017 UACE Examination, only 100,066 turned up for the examinations.
According to the results released, 98.5% of 101,269 candidates qualified for the award of UACE, including candidates who obtained at least one subsidiary level pass in a subject at principal level.
A total of 60,941 (60.7%) candidates obtained 2 principal passes, a minimum qualification for one to be admitted for a degree or diploma course.
Odongo says females candidates performed better than males, with higher number of candidates scoring 3 principle passes.
The failure rate for females was at 0.7% while that of males was at 1.5%.
