Pictorial: Kyabazinga and Minister Kadaga Climb Kagulu Rock

The Kyabazinga of Busoga, His Majesty William Gabula Nadiope IV, and the First Deputy Prime Minister who is also the Minister of East African Community Affairs, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, on Saturday 20th August 2022, competed in the Kagulu rock climbing challenge.

 

The duo was joined by hundreds of Kyabazinga subjects, Politicians, Members of Parliament who hail from Busoga, local and international tourists to climb the hill to climb the hill.

Kadaga arrived at the venue at about 11:00am and was welcomed by Busoga Kingdom’s Prime Minister Dr. Joseph Muvawala and Busoga Kingdom’s Minister of Tourism, Hellen Namutamba.

 

Later the Kyabazinga also arrived at about 12:00pm and was welcomed by Dr. Muvawala and Buyende district woman MP Nakato Mary.

He was led to the steps constructed at Kagulu rock which he launched by cutting a tape and started climbing the rock.

 

The Kyabazinga was followed by Kadaga from behind and climbed the hill. They arrived at the peak at different times, signed on a banner and each took photographs while at the peak.

After reaching the peak, the Kyabazinga embarked on descending the rock and by-passed Kadaga whom he found climbing and the two waved at each other amidst cheers from locals who were climbing along with them.

 

During speeches at the bottom of Kagulu rock, Miss Tourism Busoga was crowned and in her speech, Kadaga urged Basoga to promote community tourism, rediscover their culture heritage and values of honesty, hard work and unity.

Kadaga appreciated President Yoweri Museveni for fulfilling his pledge of making sure that steps are constructed at Kagulu rock to enable tourists to climb the rock with ease.

She revealed that they have plans of installing a cable car to take tourists up to the top of the hill and they also plan to construct a restaurant at the top to where tourists will be refreshing themselves with soft drinks and snacks.

In his remarks, the Kyabazinga of Busoga His Majesty William Gabula Nadiope IV hailed President Yoweri Museveni for supporting the development of Tourism in Busoga.

 

He urged his subjects to continue promoting culture, heritage and activities that promote tourism like Miss Tourism Busoga beauty pageant among others.

He later cut a cake and served it to his subjects.

 

The monarch also handed over certificates of appreciation to various sponsors who participated in sponsoring the Kagulu rock climbing challenge.
