A dump truck crashed into legendary West Hollywood music venue Whisky a Go Go on Friday, colliding with a powerline and other vehicles in the process.

Sunset Boulevard and Clark Street were closed in West Hollywood on Friday after a dump truck collided with Whisky a Go Go, leading to power in the area being shut off. The truck first hit a powerline and several other vehicles, including a mail truck, before it crashed into the legendary music venue.

“Due to the traffic collision, some power has been affected and power is out to some parts of the area,” said the LA Sheriff’s Department. “Crews are currently on scene and working to restore power.” Power was fully restored to the area by 3:30 AM, according to officials.

The show planned for Friday night at Whisky a Go Go included performances by Boy Hits Car, Barefoot in the Bathroom, and Gearheart, but was ultimately cancelled.

“This dump truck came careening out of control down Clark Street into the back of the Whisky a Go Go, taking out six different cars,” said KCAL News’ Desmond Shaw. The truck was parked on a downhill slope, and there was no one inside the vehicle when the incident happened, witnesses said.

No serious injuries were reported from the crash. A postman in the mail truck suffered minor injuries from jumping from the truck and into the street to avoid getting hit, but did not require hospitalization.

“The entire building shook violently; a lot of us thought it was an earthquake at first,” said Liliana Seidel, an employee at the venue. “We thought a bomb went off, then the power just cut immediately throughout the building.”

Whisky a Go Go opened in 1964 as an “anchor on the Sunset Strip since its opening.” The beloved venue has hosted numerous musical greats, including The Doors, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Van Halen, Blondie, and many more.
