The bright blue morning, blessed with slight drizzles ensemble  the Kampala International University‘s 11th graduation ceremony.

Students lined up and their smiles matched the gowns that billowed as they made the long walk to the ceremonial ground. This was on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th  November 2014.

During the graduation ceremony, Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees were awarded to 2985 students in various academic courses.

  • 1248 of whom were female while 1737 were male.
  • 28 percent of the total graduates were not Ugandan Nationals but from 15 different African countries.
  • 306 (10%) were awarded masters while 2679 (90%) got undergraduate qualifications.

K.I.U’s 11th graduation ceremony saw the former President of Tanzania, Ali Hassan Mwinyi being awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Science.

The Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, Right Honorable Rebecca Kadaga was the chief guest. She advised the administration of Kampala International University to introduce new courses in Marine Engineering, Oil and gas.

“The oil industry is going to create 13,000 jobs in the next 3 years but we don’t have experts of our own in these fields, I would thus interest you to take up these opportunities and train students in such fields so that we do not import experts from different countries”, Kadaga noted.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. P Kazenga Tibenderana informed parents that the university has introduced 5,000 cost sharing

scholarships.

“The scholarships cover 50% of the tuition fees for students studying courses that last 3 years while 40% for those undertaking courses for 4 years”, said Prof. P Kazenga Tibenderana.

The Vice Chancellor encouraged the graduates to innovate solutions to overcome the challenges faced today and become creators of the new future.

The Proprietor of Kampala International University (K.I.U), Hassan Basajjabalaba said the university branch that has been in Dar es salaam has been turned into a full university. He further revealed that Former President of Tanzania, Ali Hassan Mwinyi is the Chancellor at that university.   is offering scholarships to all their first class graduates to study masters.

The ceremony was attended by Minister Mary Karoro Okrut, Members of Ugandan Parliament, dignitaries from different countries among other guests.
