After an exciting week full of sporting action from the over 5000 participants at the 9thEastern Africa University games, the games will officially be closed on Sunday at 2 p.m with a colorful ceremony.
This follows successful completion of action in Swimming, Darts, Athletics, Rugby, Hockey, Table Tennis, Karate, Taekwondo, Scrabble and Lawn Tennis.
The closing ceremony will follow final action in the basketball (men and women), handball (men and women), Netball , Tennis and football (men).
In the Football final, Makerere University plays Kyambogo University at the main stadium.
Handball women, Nkumba University plays Kenya’s Moi University as Ndejje University men take on Technical University of Kenya.
The Basketball men final has Uganda Christian University taking on Kampala International University with Kenyan University, Strathmore playing UCU in the women’s affair.
There will be fireworks on the volleyball courts as Kenya’s attacking St Paul takes on Uganda’s Nkumba University in the women final before Nkumba returns to play Kampala International University in the men’s finals.
Many of the games’ finals were completed by Saturday night and the tallying of final medals is underway with the winner expected to be declared at 2 p.m during the colourful closing ceremony.

Ndejje University is the defending champions having won the championships two years ago in Dar es salaam.
Third place play off games are expected to start today 21st December 2014 as early as 9:30 a.m, with the finals following thereafter and will be expected to end by 1 p.m before the final medal and trophies presentation between 2-3 p.m.

Reigning champions Ndejje University are again on verge of retaining the overall title they won in Tanzania two years ago (2012) having won the athletics, Taekwondo and woodball overall medals.
Ndejje University was crowned overall winners in Athletics after sweeping the gold medals in the Eastern Africa University games at UCU Mukono.
The Luweero based University scooped 9 gold, 8 and 10 bronze medals to be declared the overall champions in athletics with 27 medals with the hosts UCU coming second with 16 medals and walked away with silver medals.
Kenyatta University of Kenya settled for bronze medal in team event with 7 medals.

IUIU emerged the regional overall winner having passed the 60 degrees compliance test set by NSSF in addition to beating the value contributed for financial year 2012/2013 threshold.
According to the National Socail Security Fund (NSSF) Nakasero Branch Manager, Horace Rwakabureete who presented the Award to the Rector and members of the University Management Committee here at the Main campus, Mbale, the award aims at recognizing employers who fulfill their social security obligations by making timely payment of all their employees’ contributions.
“From the national assessment carried out, it was observed that Islamic University in Uganda had met all the requirements of timely contributions and fully registered members; thus being compliant to their social security obligations”, Rwakabureete said.
Mr. Rwakabureete said that by passing the 60 degrees compliance test, Islamic University in Uganda has consistently had all their payments made by the 15th of every subsequent month. This, he said, is a feat that mirrors the university’s level of professionalism and dedication to service.
Speaking after receiving the Award, the Rector thanked NSSF for recognizing the University for the second time and reiterated the University’s commitment to pay statutory dues on time.
He appealed to NSSF to always invest the contributors’ money in projects that do not contradict their religious teachings.
“We are happy with your assurance that our money is invested in projects that are compliant with the Islamic teachings. We pray that you continue doing so and always look out for products which do not contradict with our religious teachings,” Dr. Sengendo said.

Job Summary: The Finance Manager will be responsible for the Country Programs financial management and contribute to the overall success of the organization by effectively managing all financial tasks for the organization. As necessary s/he may assist the partners of Water for people Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Update and maintain the accounting system of Water for Uganda consistent with financial regulations, rules, and procedures
Maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports that are appropriate’ for users such as Headquarters, funding partners, and the Regional office in accordance with accounting principles and in the case of funding partners in accordance with contract agreements with funders
Prepare and submit as per policy monthly financial results and manage the cash flow including preparation of cash flow forecasts and wire transfer requests in accordance with policy
Implement the financial procedures manual and ensure compliance to accounting policies and procedures by all staff
Responsible for preparing monthly payroll functions to ensure that employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner
Ensure that all statutory requirements of the organization are met including filing of annual returns, submission of PAYE, NSSF and benefits remittances and other relevant taxes on time .
Prepare all supporting information for the annual external audit, internal audits and donor specific audits and liaise with the Regional finance Manager, Headquarters and the external auditors as necessary
The Finance Manager will reconcile bank accounts
Manage the acquisition of capital assets and ensure that assets are properly recorded, amortized, and disposed of as appropriate
Prepare the annual budget in consultation with the Country Director, Program Manager and Regional Finance Manager
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant should hold an Undergraduate in Accounting or Finance or BBA (Accounting)
Fully qualified or Finalist in CPA/ ACCA or other equivalent accounting qualification
Three to five years’ experience in a supervisory role in Accounting or Finance departments.
The applicant should have three or more years nonprofit accounting/finance experience.
Working knowledge of accounting software, preferably NetSuite.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Working knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards
The applicant should be familiar with the Companies Act
Proficiency in the use of computer programs for Accounting and Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
He/She will demonstrate understanding of organizational mission, vision, values, policies, procedures, and strategic goals as well as trust and teamwork in all aspects of Water For People business.
