The Ministry of Education and Sports has officially announced the Call for Student Loan Applications Uganda 2025/26 under the Higher Education Students’ Financing Scheme (HESFS).
The scheme aims to increase equitable access to higher education by supporting bright but financially disadvantaged students admitted to accredited institutions in Uganda. Whether you’re planning to pursue a diploma or degree, this is your opportunity to fund your academic journey.
What is the Higher Education Students’ Financing Scheme (HESFS)?
Established under the Higher Education Students’ Financing Amendment Act, 2024, HESFS provides loans to eligible Ugandan students pursuing higher education. The key objectives include:
- Promoting equitable access to higher education
- Supporting highly qualified yet financially needy students
- Financing priority programs aligned with national development
- Ensuring regional balance via district quota allocations
- Establishing a sustainable revolving fund for future generations
Deadline for Students’ Loan Applications – Uganda 2025/26
Online applications open: Wednesday, 25th June 2025
Deadline: Thursday, 31st July 2025 at 23:59 (local time)
Note: Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
What Does the Student Loan Cover?
The student loan will cover:
- Tuition and functional fees
- Aids and appliances for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs)
- Research funds (subject to budget availability)
Loans are awarded only to First-Year students joining appro

- Engineering
- Laboratory Science
- Human Medicine & Health Care Management
- Nursing & Midwifery
- Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Animal Sciences
- Oil & Gas Engineering
- Science Education
- Special Needs Education
- Statistics
- Computer Science & IT
- Pure Sciences
- Tourism & Hospitality
- PWD applicants can pursue any accredited program, including Humanities.

Application Checklist (Required Documents):
- Admission letter from participating institution
- National ID (applicant and parents/guardians)
- Birth certificate
- Passport photo
- Academic documents (certificates or transcripts)
- Death certificates (if applicable)
- Payment receipt of UGX 53,000
- Sketch maps (residence & home of origin)
Loan Processing Fee:

Important Notices
- No hard copy applications will be accepted.
- Applications exceeding the annual loan limit of UGX 7.6M will not be funded.
- Applicants must not be recipients of any other scholarships or funding.
- The Ministry will verify all information. False declarations lead to disqualification.
- Final selection results will be published online, in print, and via SMS.
- Avoid fraudsters and third-party agents. Application is free apart from the processing fee.
