The Higher Education Students’ Financing Board (HESFB) is established by an Act of Parliament No. 2 of 2014 as a body corporate mandated to provide Loans and Scholarships to eligible citizens of Uganda to enable them to pursue higher education at recognized Higher Learning Institutions.

HESFB completed the exercise of awarding loans to the successful applicants and released the results on 8th September 2014.

Since then HESFB has held several meetings with selected student loan beneficiaries between September 12th and 19th 2014.

Successful loan applicants have been sensitized on various topics including;

  • The Students’ Loan Scheme background information
  • The Scheme Objectives
  • Loan Scheme Coverage
  • Eligibility Criteria
  • The different loan types
  • Loan pricing and fees
  • University courses selected for support in the 2014/15 academic year;

Other topics covered the participating Universities; Loan Application Requirements; change of course and its implications; disqualification from the Scheme; Early repayment and Loan repayment mechanisms; Loan Grace period; the Credit Reference Bureau and the obligations of HESFB; the Student and the University in as far as operationalizing the Loan Scheme is concerned.

Note: All loan beneficiaries shall be required to apply for funds from HESFB on a semester basis, subject to recommendation from the University based on normal academic progress.
