Makerere University has suspended the issuing of admission letters to first year students who were admitted on government sponsorship fro the academic year 2014-2015.
This was agreed on during a meeting with the Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura, Guild president Ivan Bwowe, academic staff chairperson, Muhammed Kiggundu and the university Vice Chancellor, Prof John Ssentamu-Ddumba.
Makerere university students had planned to move to Parliament to present a petition to the Speaker protesting against the 10% fees increment passed by the university council early this year.
However, student were blocked by police from the main gate as they tried to move to Parliament to present a petition to the Speaker.
There was heavy Police deployment at the university to prevent students on going demonstrations led by the Guild President, Ivan Bwowe.
Gen Kayihura said students would get his support if the grievances they are protesting against are genuine but warned them against using violence means.
