Counseling and social psychology is a broad specialization within professional psychology concerned with using psychological principles to enhance and promote the positive growth, well being, and mental health of individuals, families and the broader community.

Social psychology and counselling focus on how people function both personally and in their relationships at ages. Counseling psychologists are employed in a variety of setting depending on the services they provide and the client population they serve. Some are employed in colleges and universities as teachers, supervisors Others are employed in independent practice providing counseling, psychotherapy consultation services to individuals

Therefore I decided to conduct a survey about the counselling and social psychology services at Uganda Martyrs University located in Mpigi district Mawokota county, Nkozi Sub County. This university is a private, catholic founded affiliated by the Roman Catholic Church in Uganda.
A survey about counselling and social psychology was conducted on 15th March,2022 led by Rukundo Allan and a group of 10 people. Each person was assigned to interview 15 people and above making a total of 150 results. The means of communication used were phone calls, messaging use social media platforms like whatsapp, Facebook.

Below are the results collected from the survey there showing there insights or graphic diagrams?

Age: The age data of a total of 154 people was collected during the survey. The total number of students in the age of 18-25 years is 126 students, those in 26 -30years are 27 students.

Gender: 99 of the students who took part in the survey were female while the other 55 were male. The total amount of the participants 154 students.

Awareness of the counselling and social psychology services; out of the 154 students only 57 students were aware the counselling services and 97 students were know nothing about the services. This number is worrying because it’s a large percentage of 61.04%.

Have you ever attended any counseling services at UMU; 109 students have never attended any of the counselling and social psychology services while 45 students only have gone for the services.

Are you happy with the counselling services? The number of students how are happy about the counselling and social psychology was 52, the 102 students were not satisfied with services at the counselling center.

However the all the 154 student came up with the own solutions such as campus should organize counselling workshops and seminars, the university make a poster directing students were the counselling offices are located.

AN INTERVIEW WITH UGANDA MARTYRS UNIVERSITY COUNSELLIOR

In an interview with the university councilor madam Clare Ahimbisibwe who has held this duty since 1st July 2018. said that ‟Counselling services aim at listening, healing, growth and freedom to the client, the main purposes of the counselling and social psychology is to teach the clients how to handle others, train them how to get their peace in which every situation. The counselling room is a place where the burdened get their freedom since she advices them with all his capacity to make them feel at home. However madam Clare also shared the challenges faced in the counseling and social psychology services such as lack of counseling equipment’s such sands used in the process of knowing someone’s anger, stones of all weights used to know the clients strength. way forward, she promised me to upload the agenda of the counselling services.
