Court sets Date to start Hearing Min. Nandutu’s Case

The State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Agnes Nandutu, has been further remanded to Luzira prison until tomorrow May 4, 2023, for the bail ruling.

Nandutu has this morning presented three sureties before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala including Hon. Nandala Mafabi but prosecution led by Jonathan Muwaganya objected to her release on bail saying the minister had disappeared before she handed herself to police for interrogation.

State prosecutor Mr. Jonathan Muwaganya added that the minister who also doubles as Bududa district Woman Member of Parliament during her disappearance abandoned her official vehicle, her home, and that none of her bodyguards knew where she was hiding.

Meanwhile, Justice Jane Kajuga has appointed three court assessors and set May 25, 2023, as a hearing date for the main case.

Nandutu is accused of dealing with suspected 2000 stolen iron sheets meant for the vulnerable people of Karamoja sub-region.

Prosecution led by David Bisamunyu and Jonathan Muwaganya states that during the month of June 2022, Minister Nandutu dealt with 2000 pre-painted iron sheets of gauge 28 marked “Office of the Prime Minister” by receiving and holding them with reason to believe that they were acquired as a result of loss of property.

The minister has been on remand since 19th April 2023.
